The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

The BOOKER T. WASHINGTON Papers From James Fowle Balc~wir~ Marshall [Hampton, Va.] Dec 3rd [~882 My dear Washington I have your letter with check for $~g. balance of your loan account, for which ~ hand you my receipt herewith. Gen Armstrong wishes me to say that he received your letter of Pith asking his advice as to the trust matter, and that we have consulted together about it. We think that as these donations are given, through our faith in you that it would give more confidence to the friends who are likely to aid your enterprise to have you, one of the Trustees, in charge of the School property. You certainly ought to have a voice in its management. We think also that there should be a declaration, by the Trustees, of the objects for which they hold the Trust, a copy of which declaration could if necessary at any time be printed and sent to friends, to inspire confidence that the money will be well applied. I congratulate you on having paid for your farm, and on your good prospects generally. With kind regards to the Hamptonians with you, ~ am yours truly J. F. B. Marshall HLpS Business Office ViHaI.
