The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

ADDE N DA among our friends at the North, and certainly will not help the race at the South. ~ hear that MilholIand Is going to hold a meeting at Cooper Union. He and his kind can accomplish little good for the South just now. Yours very truly, Booker T. Washington TLpS Con. BTW Papers DLC. Emmett Jay Scott to Samuel Laing Williams ~Tuskegee, Ala.] October ~ 9, ~ 906 My dear Mr. Williams: I am answering your letter of some days ago to the Doctor. ~ beg to say that the Doctor's speech was prepared, typewritten, and the copies carried from here to Atlanta and distributed among the various newspapers before the Doctor had opportunity to meet the various editors of the several newspapers. It would seem that a man of the type represented by Barbour' would understand that Dr. Washington in calling upon these newspaper editors could have nothing in view except the lessening of the acute tension then existing. The distortion and misrepresentation to which they have resorted Is a tribute to their ingenuity as scoundrels entitled to little or no respect. My candid opinion is that there was no reason whatever for Barbour to get scared and leave Atlanta as he did. Bowen, Crogman and others were persecuted but yet they stood their ground. It would seem that a man who claimed to partake of the spirit of John Brown would face the enemy instead of flying at the first rumor of danger. ~ send you herewith a copy of the Atlanta address as requested. With kindest regards to Mrs. Williams and aD friends, ~ am Faithfully yours Emmett J. Scott TLpS Con. 34 BTW Papers DLC. Jesse Max Barber. 5~5
