The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

The BOOKER T. WASHINGTON Papers we are In great need of funds to enable us to continue the work here. The new building which was dedicated the other day, Is costing us upwards of $~o,ooo, and the hard time having overtaken us before we could complete it, with the additional financial stringency, made by the European War, has made this the hardest year that we have experienced in the history of the school. Dunng the entire year we have been following a plan of retrenchment and cutting off every possible expense that we could. Still ~ find we are greatly in need of $~o,ooo immediately. Without this, ~ hardy see how we can continue the work here. If ever there was a time we needed aid, it Is now. If ever there was a time a good cause was short-handed, it Is now. ~ sincerely appeal to you to help us in any way you can. ~ have done my utmost to get some of the Northern Trustees to visit us at the time of the dedication, and ~ also tried to get some of our friends, but in both efforts ~ was not successful. Our donations have fallen off practically two-thirds since the hard times begun, and just now ~ see very little signs of any improvement. ~ fee] sure that we are in a good cause and believe that we are doing reasonably well under these trying circumstances. What we need now is a little money, and I earnestly appeal to you for help in any way you can. With best wishes, I remain as ever TLS Con. boa BTW Papers DLC. Most gratefully yours, To William Junior Edwards W,J Edward {Tuskegee, Ala.] December 2, 19~4 Dear Mr. Edwards: I am very glad to ted you that all those who visited Snow Hill on the occasion of the formal opening ant! dedication of your new building, Robert C. Bedford Hall, were very much unpressed by the earnest effort being put forth by your officers and teachers to build up a creditable and effective institution. We were not only impressed by the loyalty and earnestness of your teacher, but by the promising set of students in attendance. 192
