The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

JANUARY . 1909 From William Hoicombe Thomas Montgomery, Ala. [ca. Jan. 5, Yogi Personal Dear Dr: I am in receipt of a letter from Prof Charles Richmond Hendersont of the University of Chicago in which he says the following: ''Professor Daenel12 of University of Kiel'' (Germany) ''& I have already agreed to meet on the evening of January 7th at the same place,'' (in Montgomery,) i''] and the following morning early go out to see Mr Booker T. Washington's famous school,3 returning in time for my address in the evening.'' He speaks here as you see from clipping at night. Confidentially I had letter from Ray Stannarc} Baker replying to my letter with following: ''How much would it take for a final appeal of the Bailey Case. How much can be raised down there? It is possible that one or two friends of mine might be willing to help a little in the matter. Also would you make a clear statement in a few words of just what the issue is 8c its importance, so that in making suggestions to my friends I can give them your own statement of the case.'' I also had letter from you can read & return to me.4 I am going to do my best to get help for the new appeal. I ctid not want it taken up on habeas corpus but had to allow Mr Watts5 to have his way as he began the case and is a nephew of my opponent and political enemy so Mr Bal16 came into the case by consent as you know. Ball Is anxious to go on with It it we can get some one now to pay t 11S expense. He desires no fee. The one paying the expense of the lost appeal could hardly stand the additional financial burden I should think. However if several contributed it could easily be made up and no one known in the matter for Mr Ball would again have his guaranty Company make the bond for costs and damages. I also hand you copy of letter to Mr Abbott7 you will return to me. I am doing what I can to keep the matter in shape for second appeal if desired and financial help is found. I am Yours Truly William H. Thomas ALS Con. goo BTW Papers DLC. iCharles Richmond Henderson (~84~9~5), a Baptist clergyman from 1873 to 3
